Portland and Seuss in the vampire school

Yesterday (Saturday) was a sunny 80 degree day, and was a beautiful day for a drive down to Portland.  We even got a great view of Mt. St. Helens at a pit stop we took.

We had plans to go find a food truck, (Portland has soooo many food trucks) but we got a little held up in the morning because we needed the oil changed.  Especially on sunny days, the food trucks tend to sell out by the time we got there.  The few that were still open were downtown and didn't look THAT great.  Definitely not worth finding and paying for parking for.  We headed up to Hawthorne by the waffle window and hipster territory.  We ended up at a place called Nick's Coney Island.  Andy was a fan.  The food was pretty good. Andy got a burger and I got a cheese steak sandwich but both had meat chili on it- mmmmm...

We also got the donut bread pudding since Yelpers said they liked it.

This is why I hate driving around Portland.  Here is an example of how many of the roads are- one way street, with a bike only lane, and a bus only lane.  It is confusing and you have to be very careful of all the bikers.

We just had time to eat, and wanted to give extra time because the bridge lift between Portland and Vancouver had gone up for boats and it clogs up traffic since it stops cars for 20 minutes or so.

We headed up to Kalama (like a half hour up from Vancouver) where Andy's aunt works at the high school and as a drama teacher was putting on the school's production of Seussical the Musical.  Does this school and parking lot look familiar?  This is where they filmed all the school scenes in Twilight!  This very parking lot had Edward save Bella from the truck on the ice.  We also saw the halls and office where Edward tried to get out of chemistry class.  We didn't see the cafeteria though.

Andy's grandma and grandpa were up from Utah and they were so excited to meet Kellan (as was the rest of the family).

Sawyer ran this hallway up and down until he was sweating bullets.  He also loved to turn all the lockers.

Here we are after the play.  Uncle Kip drew the set!

Here is Nina, Karla, and Kelly watching Sawyer and Maddie on stage.  Karla was the director, and Kelly was in charge of the music and played piano for the show.

Maddie teaching Sawyer a few instruments, the jingle bells and slide whistle.

Sawyer and Maddie playing piano as Nina dances.

When it was time to leave, we were thirsty and stopped at Dutch Bros coffee.  Something was wrong with their machine and it took forever to get our order so the girl gave us all 3 drinks for free!  Here is Sawyer with his strawberry milk.

A second very fun day to add to the weekend!
