The Road

On Sunday we hit "the road" to go to book club to discuss the book "The Road".

Since we were headed down and had some spare time between waking up and needing to be in Vancouver, we crossed the river to Portland to get some waffle window.  So. Good.  I had my basil blackberry lemonade and Andy his green tea mint lemonade.  They taste even better in the heat- so refreshing!  I had The Whole Farm again (Pepper bacon, mushroom, spinach, roasted pepper, tomato and marinated chevre), Andy had the Spicy Bacon Cheddar Jalepeno waffle (Thick cut peppered bacon, diced jalapenos and a slice of Tillamook Cheddar topped with our fresh made avocado-tomatillo salsa), and we had a blueberry cheesecake waffle (Blueberry cinnamon compote on top of our delicious cream cheese pudding, with whipped cream and sprinkled with baked graham cracker crust topping), and this other summer special one that was SO good but it isn't on the website so I can only explain that it had all fresh peaches, blueberries, whip, and this berry sauce stuff all over it that must have included mashed raspberries.  It was all so good, the only thing that could have made it better were if there weren't any hippies there.
Did I mention we cut Sawyer a mohawk?

We headed to book club right after.  The book is about America after some sort of catastrophe (nuclear war?) it is super vague, and everything is covered in ash, there aren't any plants or animals anymore, and there are very few humans left...and a lot of the ones that are left are cannibals.  A man and his son are walking a road to get to the coast and try to survive and find food along the way.  We had book club on tarps and blankets like they were and ate pork and beans like them (luckily we had waffles first lol).  Luckily they found an old coke in the machine in the book so we got to drink coke lol.  It was very fun and I always enjoy the book conversations.

Afterwards we took picture of Aunt Kristi's family which was chaos with the 3 young kids.  Andy and Sawyer had to keep turning around and shaking their butts to get them to laugh.  I haven't worked on any of those pictures yet since I am still backed up with pictures.  I got a couple of Sawyer playing though.  He got so sandy we had to give him a bath there.

Sandy man!

Playing on the other playset with Julia and Nathan
We left pretty late but it is always worth going down there!
