Dempsey day

On Friday morning Andy sent me a text that word was that Clint Dempsey was about to be signed by the Sounders.  I ran into my backroom office thing and immediately searched the internet.  I knew what that meant.  I didn't follow soccer at all until the Sounders showed up in Seattle, and since then, I still haven't known any of the players we were signing until they became part of our team.  I definitely knew who Clint Dempsey was.  I searched the web and could only come up with rumors and that nobody had any solid evidence apart from some guys seeing him in an airport heading to Seattle.

As the day passed on, more sources were "confirming" it.  The closest it got to being solid was a guy that worked for the Sounders say he "wasn't surprised" he was receiving a call about it.  By Saturday morning ESPN was reporting dollar amounts ($9 mil transfer paid to Tottenham and $8 mil a year).  And Tottenham Hotspur organization officially announced they sold him to the MLS. It was still up in the air as far as anyone could tell though where he was headed for sure.  Not long before the game started, the Sounders posted a FB status saying to get to your seats by 7:15 for a "special presentation" could it be???

We got to the stadium and I saw a fair amount of Dempsey jerseys (USMNT jerseys) floating around.  There were also some signs.  Everyone was kind of on edge and eager for this presentation.  Around 7:30, we see this:

What you are seeing is a huge amount of press coming out of that tunnel and the crowd over there was cheering.  We couldn't see that well but we knew what that meant.  The cameras finally went on the little stage in the middle of the pitch- he was here!

They said he was here checking out teams in the US or something...it was hard to hear because everyone was yelling so loud.

He asked him if he decided yet.  He nodded. Commence hoodie unzip to reveal...

RAVE GREEN!!!

omgomgomgomg

The tifo read "Keep Calm # Dempsey watch" (you can see the real one at the bottom of the pic)

Here he was doing the "Scarves up Seattle" before the match started

We won the game 3-0 (free haircuts!)

Now that you read my version, here is the video version.  Apparently he raps lol.  Its kind of cute because he is obviously super nervous when he talks into the microphone.

I can't wait until I see him play in rave green!  The next home match is against Portland too so it is going to be a HUGE game!
