Leavenworth and Vancouver

On Friday we got off work early and went to Leavenworth.  We were getting there kind of late since Andy worked later than we hoped, so we walked by the river (on a solid ice path) and even saw a bald eagle, and then visited a few stores before stopping for dinner for wiener schnitzel and reuben sandwiches.  We were going to go for the Bavarian Ice Festival this weekend, but we had to go to the play in Vancouver on Saturday, and it was supposed to snow too much Sunday.  We got to watch them set up by moving around snow and setting up an ice sculpture.

Yesterday is was back in the car for another 2 hour drive.  We had Davey and Moriama and the Walkers over for lunch before heading to go see Andy's aunt Kristi and cousin Preston (her son) in "Into the Woods".  We dropped Beany off in Vancouver with his uncle Kip so he could play with Derek and Margot.  The rest of everyone headed to Washougal High School (about a half hour of driving along the WA/OR border).  I was so excited because I did stagecraft in high school and I worked backstage on that musical when I was in 11th grade so I knew all the songs and everything.  It was fun to watch and his aunt Kristi was the best one there.  She has a great voice, I love hearing her sing!  She was the witch (which is like the main character), and Preston was hilarious in his role as Rapunzel's prince.

We ended up leaving super late that night (like 12:30) since the play started at 7 and we wanted to visit with everyone after; his grandparents were in town.  When we had left there were some snow flurries in Puyallup, but nothing too extreme.  It disappeared quickly.  There was no snow in Vancouver the whole time.  As soon as we left, we hit snow only a few minutes down the road.  Since it was so late and there were no cars to melt it, the snow was sticking good.  We had to drive home going about 40 tops (in a 70 zone) and saw random cars that had slid into ditches on the way home.  Andy had woke up at like 5 for work that morning and he was having the worst time staying awake- especially with those dizzying flakes flying at the window and your visibility no more than 15 feet in front of you.  It was pretty scary, but we finally made it home at 4am.  We were actually lucky.  A truck had crashed by Dupont and Andy's mom called us (they were a little ahead of us since we stopped in a drive thru) warning that the freeway was stopped so we were able to exit and go around and only go an extra minute.  They were stopped there for probably an hour! What a relief to get home.  We all slept until nearly noon!  It was fun but definitely an adventure.
