A day of action!

Today we signed 500 papers for the house. It was crazy.  She kept saying how the process was to "get the keys" but we already have them ;) haha.

Today at work was nuts. Every now and then we get our iPhones stolen.  They take them and run, and no matter how our instincts (at least my rugby ones) tell us to tackle them, we aren't allowed to do anything because they could sue us if they get hurt...dumb.  Anyway today was different.

There was a guy that Char was helping and he was being really nice and asking questions and stuff.  He walked over to the iPads and started messing around with one (as most people do), next thing we know the alarm was going off.  They often go off randomly, but we all looked and saw him running out of the store.  My manager Jen yells at him and of course he keeps running.  Vince tried (who is pretty muscular) but they guy kept going knowing he couldn't touch him anyway.  He took off out the door and Jen runs after him to catch a license plate.  He took off on a MOTORIZED STAND-UP SCOOTER!  We couldn't believe we got jacked by a guy on a scooter, but it was pretty fast and didn't have a license plate...well played, jerk, well played.

We saw him shoot out to the stop sign, but instead of turning right out to 160th, he took a left to turn back towards LA Fitness.  I yelled out "He's going left!"  Jen took off to corner him out where he had no choice but to pop out, and Dustin took off the other way following him.  Vince ran in the back and grabbed his car keys and took off where Dustin went.  Jen came running back (in her heels) and said she didn't see him.  We told the security guard who searched the area (even the dumpster) and said she couldn't find him.

Dustin and Vince hadn't come back like 15 minutes later, and we wondered what happened to them, the guy should have been cornered or gone by then.  My phone rang and it was Dustin saying "WE GOT HIM!"  I couldn't believe it! They said they'd be back in a few minutes because they had to identify him to the police.  It was a pretty crazy story.

I guess Dustin hopped in Vince's mustang and they shot around the corner.  They saw him behind staples scooting towards a truck.  They pulled up behind as he was about to put his scooter in the back of the truck, with the cops on the phone.  Dustin told him "Hey, you can give the iPad back, or you can get arrested"  He gave them a crazy look, threw the scooter in the back, pushed his girlfriend/wife/whatever out of the seat and took off.  They followed him with the police on the phone.  They kept a good distance not knowing if he had a gun or anything.  The guy took off down 110th and into the Sunrise Medical center where Oasis and everything is.  The dispatcher said she'd call right back and they stayed on Sunrise Boulevard to keep their distance. They saw a police car coming and waved it down.  The police said "are you the guys? where did he go?" and I guess like 5 cop cars had them in the medical plaza.

I guess a cop was in the plaza already for a doctor appointment and called on his radio that something looked like it was happening when a guy flew in on his truck and was about to ditch it and run.  With the two stories together, they had them.  They arrested the 2 people and the girl admitted they were driving around planning that all day and were going to return the iPad to Best Buy for money.

I can't believe it!  We have never got anything stolen back.  Usually we watch them run out the door and call the police to have them come write a report 5 hours later and *maybe* get a copy of the video cameras.  This time we got them arrested!  Heck yes!  I am wondering if they are getting charged with a felony since that iPad was worth over $500 which is grand theft!  It will be interesting to see if we hear anything more.
