The Most Tired I've Been

Let me point out that I have been waking up early all week. Anyway...

Yesterday we had our Tacoma Aroma 7's Rugby tournament.  We hosted a ton of teams from all over at our Portland Ave. Fields.  There were supposed to be 30 teams all together, but mostly men's teams. There were also boys and girls high school teams, and there were only 2 other women's teams to play against our team's two sides.

We got there at 7am to set up the different fields (there were three) and soon after, the place was packed.  Our first game was against the Seattle Breakers, which apparently are going to nationals.  We didn't score, but I think we did OK considering I was on the team of mostly noobs (like a year or less of rugby).  I did really well and got a lot of good tackles.  Once I tackled a girl who popped the ball to another girl on her way down, and I managed to get up fast enough to tackle that girl too :) I was proud of that game.  They were quick, and I had never been so exhausted and hot after that game.  My mouth was completely dry, which is hard to deal with when you are wearing a mouthguard.

We spent a lot of time sitting out in the sun (so draining) and Sawyer pushed his stroller all over the field (so cute).  Our second game was against some girls that were really tubby which makes it really hard to tackle.  I usually play on the outside and most of the action was in the middle so I really didn't do anything.  There were a few of times I was wide open with no defenders in front of me and they didn't pass the ball out so I was pretty much just angry after that game. It would have been nice to score.

My coach had it set up so that the people that go to practice all the time were one team, and the people that are really good but don't show up to practice were on another.  It made some of us so angry that there was basically a "ringer" team, while the rest of us were left out to dry, when WE are the ones putting time into the team.  When the final game came, she kept that team in, even though one person was limping, and another girl isnt that good, but she just doesnt come to practice.  We were so angry that the committed ones got one less game.  I was mad and Sawyer (who didn't sleep since 6am) was very sleepy and cranky so we left early.

Afterwards we went to Andy's dad for dinner because Jay and Chantel were in town.  Davey and Moraima were there too. We had a lot of fun hanging out with them, and the food was good as usual. :)  His dad made this really good raspberry lime drinks! Andy spent the time trying to get Jay and Chantel to move back to WA haha.  I was falling asleep the whole time because the sun and exercise and early wake up drained me!

I fell asleep the second I got in bed (no exaggeration.)  Sawyer didn't nap all day and slept over 12 hours last night!

Hey Coop

Today we met Destiny and Erik and my dad and Destiny's parents and Kaylene at Bradley Lake because my cousin Jennifer was there with Cooper.  Us 3 haven't seen him since he went back to Jennifer.  He has gotten so big!  It was nice just sitting in the shade in the PERFECT weather.

Today was also a proud moment because Sawyer got his first Happy Meal. We love McD's if you can't tell, and getting his own meal made him seen so grown up. He devoured it :) There were just a few fries left in the grass at the end.

Sawyer Tricks

Sawyer is now one year, one month, and one week old!

I thought I'd document what "tricks" he does since I tend to forget if it isn't blogged. I hope I don't forget any!

-When you go to get him, he grabs his crib rail and jumps on the bed like crazy

-He doesn't really talk, but says Hi, Mama, Dada, and "da" (like "that") in the right context...though he uses them for other things

-When something is shocking or interesting, he goes "whoa!"

-You can say "where's your head?" and he grabs his head, "where's your ear?" and he points to his ear (not all the time on this yet but often) and occasionally "where's your mouth?"  We got him to get his nose today but one time isn't enough to convince me

-If he sees a dog, or you ask what sound a dog makes, he goes "whoo whoo whoo whoo" (we taught him woof), and What sound an owl makes (hoooooooooooo). Sometimes he can do a monkey too (ahhh ahhh)

-If you sing "Twinkle Twinkle" he will open and close his hand like a twinkle star

-Waves both ways (moving hand up and down and open and closed)

-Rolls ball back and forth

-Claps if you say "yay!" "good job!" or if he hears applause

-If you open my mom's back door he crawls back and forth between the stairs and the grass outside really fast

-Brushes his hair if you give him a brush

-Brushes his teeth if you give him a toothbrush

-Pretty coordinated and can take off and put on lids, and likes to pull straws out of cups and put them back in the little hole

-Points at things including himself

-Drives around cars like cars

-Knocks down block and lego towers one by one (pulls one lego of at a time)

-"Reads" books all by himself. Flips through the pages pointing at things

-Hugs any stuffed animal really tightly and if you say "give it a hug" he does

-Kisses air kisses

-Crawls through his tunnel

The east coast conundrum

I have never been to the East Coast. Well, ok I HAVE been to the most technical east coast (the coast of eastern Florida), but not really "the east coast" as in New England and stuff.  My "big sister" Toni from when I lived in Las Vegas is getting married in New Jersey next May, and Andy and I decided we definitely want to make the trip.

The wedding, in East Hanover NJ, is about a half an hour from New York City, as well as within 5 hours from cities like Philedelphia, Boston, and Washington D.C. Andy has always wanted to go to D.C., and we both have wanted to visit the other cities together.  We decided we can make a trip out of her wedding and drive around to the cities in the area.

When I told Toni about it, she also invited us on their honeymoon (lol sounds funny) because they are taking a 7 day cruise out of NJ to Bermuda following the wedding.  Now I am completely stuck!  I think since we are already paying the airfare for her wedding, this might be the cheapest cruise we could take and might be way cheaper than driving a rental car around, paying for gas, food, and hotels along the way.  It is such a good opportunity to visit the East Coast though and she said it is something we should do if we had to choose. I don't know though. I guess we have to think about it a bit more.  We have almost a year after all.  I wish that we had the money to do both, but I don't want to think about how much it would cost to do all that.  Plus I don't want to leave Sawyer for that long because we probably don't want him on the cruise. Hmmm. I guess we will see.

On the move

Today we filled out an application and paid a partial deposit for an apartment!  It is holding our spot in line so when the notices go in August 10th, we get first pick at any apartments so we can move in September 10th.

We wanted to find somewhere cheaper so we can save a little money until my braces and the car is paid off.  I am actually pretty excited because it isn't really smaller than our duplex, there is free tanning and fitness room, covered playground, tennis court, pool and spa, and it is right next door to Bradley Lake park so when we want to go for a walk or jog, we can just take off from our home! Who needs a yard when you have an entire park! Plus there are no steep stairs for Beany to fall down when he learns to walk and gets a little drowsy.  It is also across the street from Walmart, Big Lots, and the Ram, and there is a 7-11 next door.

Hopefully some people put in their notices so we can move! They said once our application gets approved, we can start using the facilities too even if we don't live there.  The funny thing is Christine and Tony live there (our former roommates) so we are following each other around the city lol.

Fun in the Sun

Today I called my parents to see if they wanted to do anything and they were on their way to hang out with Aunt Irene and Uncle Bob (as usual) and said we should come.  It was the best kind of weather today so we couldn't turn that down :)

My aunt and uncle (my mom's sister) live on Lake Tapps.  If you aren't from around here, it is a huge lake that is THE spot to be in the summer. The only issue is the entire lake's shore is houses (well, mostly mansions) so it gets pretty choppy during the middle of the day.  If you want to swim comfortably you have to boat to one of a bunch of coves scattered around the lake. If you want to waterski, you have to wake up EARLY.

We stopped at the ram on the way. Mmm-mmm. Sawyer threw his head back and stared at the row boat on the ceiling when he wasn't double-fist scarfing fries in his mouth. He has a problem lol. He doesn't even stop to chew.

When we got to my Aunt's house, my dad was just pulling up on the sea doo and asked if anyone wanted a ride.  In Washington, you now need a boater education card (like a boating driver's license) to drive a boat or sea doo.  Which, I will add, is an awesome law because some people that didnt grow up on a boat like me, drive like idiots on their sea doos because they don't know the rules of the water... and it is so dangerous! Anyway, my dad had to drive the sea doo and we had so much fun besides the near-sea sickness from all the waves in the lake!

We hung out at the house and ate BBQ and swam.  We tried to teach Sawyer to swim, but apparently he only likes his bath.  He screamed like there was no tomorrow! He didn't even like the floatie!  The water was warm for lake standards, but I guess it was probably cold for him.

We ate some berries and desert and my dad took me out for another cruise when the sun was going down and the lake was smoother. My cousin Peter took Andy and I out on the boat right after and we went to look at some of the mansions.  Definitely a good day in the sun!

Vicki and Maks get married

Today we attended the wedding of our good friends Victoria and Maksim!

We are so happy for them. We met them because Vicki worked at Pierce with us when she was doing running start. They have been dating about a year longer than Andy and I have even known each other (since Vicki was 16).  They have also been "good" this entire time...we witnessed their first kiss today (so cute.)  It was probably the most beautiful wedding that I've seen (obviously my favorite was my own but this was a different "style" than ours.)

They wrote their own vows, we got to listen to audio of the first time he said he loved her (recorder in pocket) and they even video taped his proposal.  She said she didn't want people around when he did it so he had it all planned, and while in the restaurant, he snapped, and everyone there froze completely still while he said his thing and proposed! Their good friends and family ran in afterwards- it was so cute.

The wedding and reception were nice, but there was some stuff in Russian that we didnt understand lol (their parents speak Russian.)  The food was Russian too though so that was exciting.  Sawyer did not enjoy the day though- no more babies at weddings lol.

A few bonuses: A russian complemented my outfit (and if you know any, you know they have style), the photographer complemented me on having a "good lens" (it seems like the general public thinks that longer lenses mean better but not always the case haha), and Andy's ex girlfriend was a bridesmaid but we didn't have to have any awkward interactions lol

 Anyway, we are so happy for the new Ghyvoronsky family!!!

Sawyer didn't eat much Saturday, and yesterday he threw up some blueberries when I fed them to him and a little bit of his hot dogs.  I thought it might be because the blueberries were frozen and he had too many, but this morning I woke up to the worst surprise ever!

I walked in to get Sawyer and he had thrown up everywhere.  All over the crib, the floor, and anything in that vicinity had his food from yesterday.  It smelled so bad in there that I had to run out.  I took a deep breath, ran in, opened his windows, and grabbed him...and ran straight to the bathtub.  He whined in the tub because his poor bum (he was sick in that region too) had the worst rash ever from all that acidy stuff.  I tried to call Andy a few times, and the doctor, and my mom while he tried to get out of the tub. It was the saddest thing I've seen.

I fed him a little pedialyte in a bottle and he threw up a ton more than he drank in halfway through.

We eventually got a call back from the doctor who said to bring him in.  After well over an hour in the waiting room, we finally were seen.  He had a 101 fever and was dehydrated.  We got another prescription for his bum (same as before- that yeast stuff) and she said we should take him to the ER to get an IV.  We really didn't want to have to take him so I asked if we could get him to keep some liquids down if we could try.  She said we could for a couple hours but if he doesn't take anything then we should go in.

Luckily, Sawyer pretty much drank a jug of Pedialyte so we didn't have to go in.  He also took a nap and sweated a little (he wasn't sweating earlier) and his fever went away with some medicine.  He just laid his head on me all day, but he was acting quite a bit more chipper later in the day.  We even took him outside to air his bum out since they said that was the best thing we could do (we couldn't let him wander the house without a diaper or our carpet would be destroyed considering the circumstances).  It improved quite a bit. I am staying home again tomorrow to make sure he is improving, so I hope he gets better. It is the saddest thing in the world when you can't fix a sick little baby :(

We Survived Warrior Dash '11

Warrior Dash is a 5k race that tours the country that is supposed to be unlike any other race.  Sounds like the perfect first race for me!  It has a huge following and had 2 days in Seattle with waves of hundreds of people starting every half hour from 8am-6pm.

We decided to do the first wave.  I thought there was a chance it might get hot later in the day since it was in the summer, and I didn't want the obstacles all worn out.  We didnt realize how good of a decision that was until we were leaving and saw the back-up of cars on i-90.  Being the first wave we cruised to the parking field and hopped the shuttle bus right away.

As we looked around I started to feel way more comfortable.  It looked like most of the people there weren't runners.  We checked in and got our fuzzy warrior helmets, along with our timer chip which we tied to our shoe. (The medals came at the finish line but this is the only pic i could find)

We checked our stuff (thank goodness it was complimentary) and headed to the starting line.  It was warm out but raining.  With the blow of some torches, we were off.  The trail was kind of skinny in spots and we were held up a bit.  Tip: If you want a good time, do the first wave and stand at the front.  I was in no rush so we didnt mind a bit of walking.  The terrain was really lumpy and we tried hard not to break our ankles running through the field that they had plowed grass down for us to run on.  We reached our first obstacle: there were several baracades followed by barbed wire that we had to go over, then crawl under.  Andy helped some ladies over the barracade.  We continued on through some mud and hit the scariest obstacle.  You had to climb up a huge wall with a rope.  It was really tall and climbing over the top was really scary.  We did several other obstacles incuding climbing over junk cars, over a net, through swinging tires, and through a tent you had to crawl through on your hands and knees but it was pitch black inside.

We were going along good, but due to the wet terrain, I got the worst blisters of my life about 2/3 of the way through.  I pretty much walked on the outside of my feet the rest of the race and was disappointed, but since I didnt really care about my time, it wasnt a huge deal (apart from extreme pain.)  As we approached the end of the race, we could hear the music and I pushed and jogged the last part.  There was a huge net we had to climb over

And then through a mud pit.  It was a lot worse than it looks. It was like a foot or more thick and you SUNK into it...walking was impossible.  You had to crawl under the barbed wire, but if you had even tried to walk, you wouldn't have made it.

We reached the finish line, my tutu falling off from the weight of the mud, and got our banana and finishing medal!  We wanted some pics while dirty so i had to wipe my hands of on random things to get the following pictures.  We eventually rinsed off in the rinse station, which was water trucks with FREEZING water. Everyone was hyperventilating in the process.

Overall, it was an awesome first 5k.  I cannot wait to go back next year, hopefully without blisters so I can run the whole time.  It was some of the most fun I have had!  I don't know our times yet because we got cold and left early, but I will probably post it in the future.  They had food (turkey legs) and a band and stuff so it will be cool to stick around next year when my parents can come (they didnt want to hold beans out in the cold) and take good pictures and stuff :)

'Arry Potter

Today is a sad day. The last part of the last Harry Potter movie comes out at midnight.  Okay, so technically it is tomorrow...

I have loved several series of books throughout my life, but I have a strange connection to Harry.  I started reading the books when I was in 7th grade, which is about the same age that Harry was for those first 3 books.  Maybe it is because I felt like I grew up along with him. Anyways, my mom got it for my brother for Christmas or something, and I read it afterwards.  From then on out, we had to fight over it whenever a new book came out.  Usually, there was a time schedule and Erik got it in the morning and I would get it at night.  We used different bookmarks. It would only take a couple of days of course ;)  As more came out, I made sure we got it right away and I would read it in one sitting (stopping only to use the bathroom and eat at the same time). I remember my neighbors got book 4 before I got mine and I listened to their book on CD for a couple days with them.  My parents got involved and the book would have to make the rounds each time. When the last book came out, I got it at a Top Foods HP party and did not sleep, even though we went camping that weekend and I had to read it by flashlight that next night and my parents had to nag me to hike with them hehe.

I would spend hours on internet forums, discussing theories with other Potter fans, and pointing out little things in the books that most people wouldn't notice unless they've read each book 5 times like the rest of us, looking for foreshadowing.  I loved all the different stories going on within the big story, and the characters Jo created, and their funny names, and their powers, and the way they have magic to make things easier, but still seem to be in the older centuries in other ways.

Andy wasn't much of a reader before we dated, but when we started (as he likes to tell everyone this story) I told him if he wants to be accepted by my family, he has to read the series.  I also apparently told him if Harry was real I would marry him instead lol.  He read the series and LOVED it.  It even started his interest in reading again and started reading a lot.  Now he is writing his own books :)

The movies have not always been my favorite; I would usually come back saying "I can't believe they left out _____ and _____ and _____ and _____, it completely missed half the story!" but I started seeing the characters in the movies as the ones in my head as I read and started feeling close to them too. I think the movies were good, I just focused too much on how some of my favorite parts were left out.  Despite this, they have been a huge part of the Potter phenomena and now that they are wrapping up, I feel like there isn't anything to look forward to and my Harry experience is coming to an end :(

We will not be going to the midnight showing, since we have a baby and all, and it would be kind of inappropriate to ask someone on a work night to watch my son until 3 am lol.  I am not upset though since I mentioned before, the movies aren't my favorite anyways and its not like I don't know what's going to happen ;) Plus I hate going to the movies when it is crowded haha.  We will probably catch it in a few weeks when the hype has died down a tad.  It is just sad to feel like a chapter of my life is over.  I am hoping Jo writes a few more in the future (maybe of Harry's kids?), but I don't think it could compare to the original. I can't wait for Sawyer to be old enough to read them!

I got home from work and Andy had set up Brown Couch for us!  The space looks so much brighter and open! No, you cannot have a view of the whole room yet because the toys are everywhere.

Andy squished it into our computer/art/storage room...where the blankets went.  Now the blankets are stored on top of Blue Couch until we can find a home for it.

7-12-11

I love Wednesdays.  What? It's not Wednesday?  It is tricky because I usually have Wednesdays off early to do inventory, but we had to do another store's inventory as well as our own this month by Tuesday, and they told us Friday so I had to have my mom watch Beans Monday and Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Which means my work week will not be cut in half by a nice half day in the middle. Boo.

Have you been wondering what we have been up to lately?

This weekend we didn't have to do anything but after our awesome Saturday, we went to our favorite restaurant Red Robin on Sunday (following 2 AWESOME soccer matches by the USA and the Sounders v Timbers). Everything there is so good so Andy and I usually order 2 things and have them cut it in  half so we don't have to decide on just one thing.  We had the Pub Burger for the first time (awesome!) and our classic Whiskey River BBQ burger.  SOOooo good. Beany ate some fries (they are bottomless) and mushrooms. He will eat anything we put in front of him. The strawberries were frozen in my lemonade this time which was kind of refreshing, but I dont have a picture of that.

Yesterday we got our new old couch!  My parents are renovating their house and now that they have ordered their couch, they decided to give us their old one (which isn't that old) now since the railing was off the stairs (to accommodate for the safe).  We haven't had time to get rid of blue couch yet, so brown couch is sitting in our living room too.  You can't really walk through our house right now. Here is dad loading it into the truck and trying to cover it with blankets since it started sprinkling.

Today I got drenched at rugby practice.  It was kind of nice to run around in the rain since it wasn't cold.  Minus rain in the eyes which I do not think is nice.  And minus the awful cramp I got after lap one of our 4 lap run at the end causing me to sit out.  Andy says it is because I am dehydrated since I don't drink anything.  I suppose it was a convenient time to get a cramp though because I was already dead from practice and the full sprint down the field chasing a girl a couple minutes prior.

So yeah, that has been our life the last couple days.  Woo?

A late start, but good day

Today I slept until noon....oops.  We all finally got ready for the day around 4:00 lol.

First, we got dressed and took some cute pictures in the backyard.

Then, we went to Ruston Way for a walk on the waterfront

Then, we went to the Harmon for some tasty food!

We went a couple stores over when we were done, and got a couple cupcakes from "Hello, Cupcake" then sat on the stairs at UW Tacoma.

Lastly, we came home and redboxed Beastly and The Dilemma!  Such a good day!

Such a relaxing day!  Hopefully tomorrow will be the same.  I'm going to start my tutu for warrior dash next weekend!
