Sacramento for Rugby

We finally made it home and settled from our quick trip down to Sacramento.

We left Thursday night after my practice.  We wanted to go overnight so we'd have an extra day and so that Sawyer would sleep the whole way.  Andy drove most of the way, but I drove 4 of the 12 hours down for once.

We finally arrived in Sacramento at around 11am.  We went to take a nap while Sawyer played with Grandma and the dogs.  Jasper liked him ok, but Alice was terrified of him.

After the nap we had dinner and walked around in the sun.  It was 80 degrees there and it was nice to bust out our summer clothes again.

After dinner Andy's step sister Tami and family came over and we visited for a little bit while they dropped Sawyer's cousin Claudia off.  She had fun with Sawyer all night. They played puppets and her and grandma were teaching him tricks like lifting his legs up high and saying ready, set, go and running to the fridge, and jumping on the trampoline (which gave me heart attacks but he loved it).

The next morning was my rugby game.  It was against the "Amazons" which is an all-tongan team.  They were big. They were mean.  I got a concussion in the first 20 minutes and had to sit out most of the game.  They were throwing punches, choking, and diving off their feet into rucks.  They didn't need to cheat because they were stronger than us, but their attitude just made them look like jerks.  I ended up injured because the big girl running at me hit me in the head with he forearm as she ran at me (illegal) and it got hit a second time on the ground (also knocking the wind out of me). Their crowd was yelling things like "yeah! that's how we do it down here!" which was so infuriating because they were doing completely illegal things to a respectful team that was a first-year team that they didn't even need to act that way towards. UGH.  I hope we never have to play them again. We did, however, score on them, which i guess we are the first team the whole season to do that.  No wonder they were so mad at us.  They were tackling people that didn't even have the ball! (illegal again).

After showering, we went to a restaurant Sam knows the owner of, El Novillero.  We love the flour chips!  Sawyer was at a table next to a pretty girl baby and he was blowing kisses at her and waving, it was so cute.

After we went to Sammie and Rico's (another of Andy's step sisters) to meet their new baby Corbin.  He is only like 2 weeks old!  He was so tiny and cute.  I wanted one....but then he cried and I changed my mind.  He was fun to hold though :)

We woke up the next morning and I was DIZZY.  As in I couldn't even sit up without vertigo and using the bathroom was a task. Sawyer swept the floor. Somehow I made it to the car, and we all loaded up.  Andy's mom was coming back with us.  I felt better as the day went on, and Sawyer was an ANGEL in the car the whole way.  The only time he fussed we went to the next rest area (one mile away) and found he just had a dirty diaper.  He was just cute and making funny noises and faces the whole way.  It had us worried because we drove ALL DAY (11am to 11pm) but he wasn't difficult at all.

  The trip was pretty fun apart from the awful game.  I wish we could have stayed longer, but neither of us could really be away from work for long.

Pumpkins

We took Sawyer to the pumpkin patch on Sunday at Spooner Farms.  It is probably the best free one, so it was packed (being a weekend and all).  We let Sawyer run around, and we each got a pumpkin (pictures when we carve them closer to Halloween).  It was pretty fun. Here are a ton of pictures...

OH before I forget, I wanted to write Sawyer's latest favorite thing to say. "Dog! Woof woof woof!" he said it all the way to the patch in the car.  He did it today again pointing at a cat.  I was like "no, kitty meow meow" and he just laughed at me :-/

Winning!

Yesterday we (my rugby team, that is) played Portland for the league championship.  The winner of the game would advance to Sacramento next weekend for the playoffs.  They scored in the first half but didn't make their kick.  Second half was really an emotional roller coaster getting close then them kicking it away, but we finally scored!  It was a tie (apparently we had a higher point differential against the other teams so we would have gone in the event of a tie) but we scored again at the end of the game!  We were going nuts :)  Their team had a ton of people so we played a third half as a friendly so the rest of them could get some time, which was a lot of fun actually because they weren't that good so we got to have more fun and not be so vicious. We are going to Sacramento next weekend!!!  Our team's first season in the league (PNW) and we are the champions!

After the game we went to the Sounders last regular home game.  It was Kasey Keller's last game and they sold out, even after opening the top level seats (64,000+ people!)  It was a pretty exciting game, Keller got some awesome saves, and we scored twice in the last part of the game for the win!  Andy's arms almost fell off from holding Sawyer the whole time, but he fell asleep by the end of the game.  It was really fun!

Well, parenthood as caused us to learn about a lot of new health issues we were not aware of just over a year ago (croup, pyloric stenosis...).  Not exactly fun stuff, but at least we have all survived and learned a thing or two.

This time, it is "hand foot and mouth disease."  This is not to be confused with "foot-and-mouth or hoof-and-mouth disease" that kills livestock.  This is an all-human problem that little ones get, usually between summer and fall, that tends to go around daycares, preschools and kindergartens.

Sawyer was cranky pants on Thursday and Friday last week.  Our doctor had said in a couple weeks (so right around now) his top molars would come and cause some issues usually more than other teeth (fever, diarrhea, pain...)  Sawyer had a fever on Thursday and was his cuddly whiny personality as he has in the past with one.  I tried to feed him macaroni and cheese because it was soft, but he just cried.  Andy gave him some frozen blueberries and he scarfed a ton of them down.  I thought they must be soothing on his teeth, but wondered why the soft macaroni gave him issues since he normally doesn't chew that much.

I was feeling crappy the past few days, and have had a sore throat.  This morning our babysitter called and said little Ryker had "hand, mouth, and foot disease" and she checked Eli and he had it as well. LJ didn't have it though.  She said Sawyer was probably already exposed since they all probably shared binkies.  Everything all came together.

Basically, this thing is an infection that causes fever and general "sick" feeling, and gives kids sores in your mouth, hands, and feet.  You don't need to go to the doctor for it, and if you do, they don't usually even give medication.  It lasts 3-7 days and is passed through body fluids. Sawyer must have had it in his throat and the blueberries were soothing to swallow, but the macaroni just hurt.

Do you remember I said i felt crappy?  Yep, somehow I was a part of the rare adults that got it.  I checked my throat today and it wasn't a usual sore throat, it is a bunch of little sores back there! Yuck!  I had thought it was cute how much Sawyer wanted to share his binky with us this past week.  Not so cute anymore.

Sawyer has been acting normal since the weekend, and I feel fine now apart from my throat.  I am glad I found out from the babysitter though, I think I would have freaked if I saw Sawyer with sores all over his mouth, hands, and feet!

Sounders v Union

There were only 2 home Sounders games left this season so we decided to go. Last night they played the Philedelphia Union.  We didn't have a sitter for Sawyer so he came along.  He was a lot easier to handle there than at Mariners games since a lot more is going on.  We took the backpack but Andy just held him the whole time.  He was quite popular.  The people around us would yell "PUT SAWYER IN!"  when one of our guys messed up, and would change some of the chants to "Sawyer" where "Sounders" would normally be.  We lost :(

Sawyer did the "boom-boom clap" thing with us!  Everyone around us was pretty impressed and I was laughing. I took a video on Andy's phone but he stopped doing it so well since he didn't have me to follow and was distracted by the camera.  Hopefully I will have that video up soon.

October?

Wow. Is time flying or what? I can't believe it is October already!  I feel like the weather changed overnight, too.

We had a pretty good weekend.  On Friday, Andy made homemade famous bowls (like KFC style, but they don't make the good ones anymore).  They were delicious!

On Saturday we picked up Erik and went to Seatac for my rugby game.  Well, we watched like 3 men's games first.  We were having a "round robin" with Western Washington University and Chuckanut (from Bellingham too) where we each played each other for 30-minute halves.  We forgot Sawyer's diaper bag so my mom and dad had to stop and get diapers on their way, and Beany had no shoes. :-/  It was pretty cold too, but luckily Sawyer's clothes and hat weren't in the bag.  I scored a try in the first game (my first in regular 15's), and I had a couple tackles in the second game that prevented them from scoring.  My favorite was a girl had a break away and i sped over across the field and caught up with her right at the try line, flew at her, and pulled her down and kind of threw her sideways so she lost the ball.  One of our girls picked it up and we ran all the way down the field and scored!  If I hadn't had made her knock the ball out she probably could have posted it in the zone and scored. (Awesome.)  We won both of the games which is awesome because we played Chuckanut a couple weeks ago and they dominated us.  My dad said "I think I like watching you tackle people more than when you have the ball!  I see you run all over and tackle them, and I'm like 'That's my girl!"  I thought that was hilarious.

Afterwards we went to Aunt Irene's for dinner.  It was so funny making Sawyer say "Bob" (my uncle) because it is the one thing he can say right. I think he got really proud that he could say it right.  We tried to get him to say Destiny and he was like Dethhthth.  Maybe when he's older.

Today we took a walk in the rain.  Well, it wasn't raining all day until we went to the park.  We took an umbrella, and it was nice having the trail so empty.  Plus, the wet forest smelled nice.

P.S. The whole "fine, we are leaving you here behind alone if you don't want to walk this way" thing doesn't work on a one-year-old.  They don't care. Sawyer took off and didn't want to come back!
