It was so fun to watch his demo for the parents/grandparents, though we can see why parents are not normally allowed- we were definitely a distraction. He was so cute doing his punches kicks and blocks for us.
I admit I was a little annoyed at how easily they handed out belts though. You are just about guaranteed to move up a level each session at the beginning. I did karate and to move to a yellow belt you had to know all the punches, kicks, and blocks (I think there were 35), as well as 2 katas (forms...a routine you do that is kind of like you're fighting fake guys). These kids just had to show up for 2 sessions pretty much and do a couple punches, kicks, and blocks each. What can you say though, it is for little kids. ;) He is excited for next session though and says he will work a little hard to get a yellow belt. I am excited if he sticks with this, since it will help him learn discipline, safety, and self defense.
